Keep that Rolodex Updated!

Knowing your Clients Preferences Could Help You with Gift-Giving

So many people wait until the holiday season to start deciding what to buy for the people on their gift list. This is the wrong way to go about buying for others. First of all, its too stressful. You have to try and think back and remember what that person likes or what their pastimes are. Second, you may not even know enough about your client in the way of their hobbies or pastimes. Third, why do it the hard way when theres an easier way to go about doing the same thing?

You may be wondering what the easy way is. The easy way is to keep your Rolodex updated. Keep a short form for clients to fill out about their preferences. You should have two different forms; one for new clients and one for existing clients. Get in the habit of having every new client fill out a getting to know you card. If you do it every time you get a new client, youll get in the habit of having them fill out the card and your Rolodex will be filled with useful information.

There are some key questions and statements to include in your, getting to know you card. First leave a blank space and have the sentence read: Tell me about yourself. With this kind of an open-ended statement, clients will feel more freedom to write about who they are. They wont be stuck into any yes or no answers and it will allow them to be more forthcoming and creative with what they choose to write. Youll be surprised at some of the responses youll get to this statement.

The key questions that you should ask are: What are your goals in your career, what are your pastimes/hobbies, what is your favorite food, and what was the best gift that you ever received? These key questions are sure to give you a good idea about who the person is and what their preferences are.

The trick with keeping your Rolodex updated is just that. Dont get your information cards from your client and then forget about it. Its important to keep the card updated. Otherwise if you dont, you could be in the doghouse when it comes time to choose a gift for them.

A smart way to keep updated is every two years go through your Rolodex. Cards that are more than two years old or just coming up to two years should be pulled for updating. Then you can simply send out a new card to your client with a little note explaining that youre updating your records. This is simple because you dont have to actually talk to the client and theyll appreciate that youre thinking of them.

So if you dont have a Rolodex, its time to get one. Or if yours needs to be updated, pull it out, blow the dust off and get to work. It may seem tedious at first, but when you see the responses you get from people, youll realize that youve just made an investment. For something so small, the pay off will be pretty large.

Even if you dont want to be the one to do it, have the secretary do it, or a business partner. Maybe you could even split the workload down the middle. However you go about it, make sure it gets done.

When you see others around you rushing around and trying to come up with the perfect gift idea, you can smile knowing that youve found a better way. You can avoid the hassle and confusion and focus on more important things.

Its The Thought That Counts in Business Gift Giving

Posted by admin | Gifts for the business sector | Friday 30 January 2009 9:09 am

Business gifts are an important part of corporate life. These gifts help thank your customers and clients for their business, retain them as customers in the future, and thank your employees for all of their hard work. But simply buying gifts in bulk and handing them out willy-nilly just wont do. To get the most out of your business gift giving, you have to put a little thought into the process.

First, when giving a business gift, you have to remember that many of your clients and customers will be receiving business gifts from other people as well. You want to make sure your gift sets your apart from the crowd and lets them know you have something different to offer than the competition. Think outside of the box for exciting new business gift ideas. Instead of going for traditional business gifts like clocks, paperweights, and office accessories, go for new ideas like magazine and newspaper subscriptions, memberships in online movie clubs, gift cards, electronics, or even airline miles. If you put a little thought into it, you can come up with a unique business gift that definitely wont get lost in the shuffle.

Another reason why it is important to put some thought into your business gifts is that your gifts will be more appreciated by your clients if they feel like you have put some thought into them. Demonstrate to your clients that you have taken the time to get to know them and their likes and dislikes by picking out a gift that is specifically for them. If your client is a big sports fan, get them tickets to one of their favorite teams games. If your client has a large family, get them passes to a family event they can all enjoy together. Get the wine aficionado a certificate to enroll in a wine tasting class. When you get a client a gift that reflects their personality, you let them know that it is THEIR business that your care about. Plus, your attention to detail about them personally will remind them of your attention to detail about them professionally, further helping your business relationship.

Perhaps the business gifts that require the most thought are the business gifts you choose for your employees. You want your employees to feel like their personal contribution to the company matters, and rather than just being a cog in the machine, they personally are a valued member of your team. To go about communicating this to them, get them gifts that reflect their personalities in much the same way you would your clients. If you have a small staff, make the effort to get to know them, and buy each staff member an individual gift you know they will be happy with. Even if your staff is too large for you to interact with each person individually, you can still take a look at your staff demographics and choose a gift that way. For instance, a younger staff might memberships to online MP3 shops, and if your staff is older, they might prefer to receive something like a subscription to an industry journal. Get it right, and along with the gift, youll end purchasing the loyalty of your staff, and that is invaluable.

If you have a lot of business gift shopping to do, time and financial constraints can make you feel like purchasing one item in bulk and crossing everyone off your list that way. Before you make that leap, stop and think. You might find with a little consideration, you can hand out business gifts that everyone will enjoy and that will solidify your professional relationships.

If the Business Gift is Useful, You Got It Made!

If the Business Gift is Useful, You Got It Made!

When giving business gifts you want to make sure to do it the right way. If you dont, your business may pay for it. Getting the right gift can help to secure your business relationship, so pay attention to detail when shopping this holiday season.

Shopping for business gifts can feel extremely overwhelming. There are so many stores and within those stores there are countless potential gifts. You start at electronics, and then wander into the home department, pretty soon youve lost your way and you cant find what you were looking for in the first place. It can be dizzying trying to pick out the perfect gift.

Whatever your gift buying standards have been in the past set those aside and try something new. This is called the useful gift-buying approach and its sure to score points for you and satisfy the person receiving the gift. When you go into a store to buy a gift you might browse around for a while and come up with a few ideas. But whatever ends up in your hands, ask yourself this: is it useful? If the answer is no, put it back.

You have to know that if you buy someone a gif that is actually useful, youve got it made. They will be satisfied with the gift and actually use it instead of putting it in the garage to sit for months until they get a chance to drop it off at goodwill. With so many frivolous things on the market, theres no telling what a person will or will not like. So play it safe and stick to the useful merchandise this year.

So what is considered useful anyway? Well lots of things are useful; it just depends on the person youre buying for. But dont worry even if you dont know too much about the person you can buy something thats generally useful and still get away with it.

Organization is a big thing. People have so much stuff and it tends to get messy so why not give them something to help them organize it. There are so many organizers out there that you will be sure to find something. Something thats really useful is an over the door organizer. You can find these at any store with a household department. The great thing about them is that you can hang them on the inside of a door and its not out in plain view. These are great for organizing everything from shoes to pens and pencils.

Kitchen items are also another area in which people need useful things. Do they have a coffee maker? How is the Tupperware? Have you seen those plastic bag holders that you can just bolt to the wall? Those are great–everyone should have one. Pottery Barn has really nice looking holders, but you could find them anywhere.

Is the person always loosing their keys? There are plenty great key hangers that you could give as a wonderfully useful gift. Or maybe one of those key finders that beeps when you whistle for it. See now youre getting the hang of it.

Just sit down and think about that person for a few minutes and youll get some ideas. If that doesnt work walk around the store and see whats available. Then youll get a better idea of what would be useful to the person youre buying for. This is where the Internet comes in handy. You could do a quick search for useful items or see whats available through a retailer. That way you would know what youre looking for before you even leave the house. Or better yet order right there from your computer.

Whatever you choose to buy this year for those business gifts remember to make it something useful. If you do this you cant go wrong.

Helpful Hints for Finding the Right Employee Recognition Gifts

Posted by admin | Gifts for the business sector | Wednesday 28 January 2009 12:07 am

The holidays provide the perfect opportunity to show your employees how much you appreciate what they do in the workplace. Not only can you take this chance to show genuine appreciation to your staff, you can also boost team morale and help your employee retention numbers. When youre employees feel like you take notice of their hard work, they are likely to work harder for you. Given all the benefits of employee recognition gifts, it is important to get the right ones. Picking out great gifts doesnt have to be a grueling process; just keep a few hints in mind, and you might just enjoy giving the gifts as much as your employees enjoy receiving them.

The first trick is to know your employees. This might be difficult if youre running a large corporation with hundreds of employees, but if your company is small, take the time to get to know some of their interests, likes, and dislikes. Search for presents for them with that information in mind; your gift will be all the more appreciated if your employees feel like you have taken the time to choose something with them specifically in mind. Even if you run a large corporation and it is not possible to know every employees interests, you can at least take a look at the demographics of your workforce and make some decisions based on that. If your employees tend to be young, single people, the best gift for them might be something entirely different than if your staff is predominantly made up of middle-aged married people. Having this information in mind will help you choose better gifts.

Once you have a handle on the kinds of gifts that will be most appreciated by your workforce, it is time to go shopping. That doesnt have to mean hard hours slogging through the local shopping mall. The Internet can be a great resource for your employee recognition gift needs. There are many websites dedicated strictly to corporate and business gifts that are filled with ideas for employee gifts, or you can often purchase items in bulk from traditional retail stores online. If the site you are visiting doesnt offer bulk order discounts, dont be afraid to contact the customer service department and ask for one; most businesses will accommodate your request to get your continuing business.

The type of things you buy for employee recognition gifts is completely up to you. Traditional choices are plaques, pens, clocks, tote bags, or umbrellas. Each of those things can personalized with employees names and/or your company logo; in fact, experts recommend including company logos on employee recognition gifts to further boost staff morale. But you dont have to go with the traditional choices; think outside the box for new and unique ideas. You can get fleece jackets, golf balls, decks of cards, drink shakers, and even iPods branded with your company logo. Spa visits and gift cards are also popular choices. Some of these more unusual employee recognition gifts might be the biggest hits with your employees. When you decide on the right gift to buy, remember to carefully check delivery dates with the company from which you are ordering, and any time you are getting something engraved, make sure you have caught all misspellings!

Whatever employee recognition gift you finally decide on buying for your staff, remember that in effect it is a gift for both of you. Your staff will feel affirmed in their position and place in your company, and in turn, you will get a more committed, harder working workforce.

Great Options for Team Building Corporate Gifts

Posted by admin | Gifts for the business sector | Tuesday 27 January 2009 2:50 am

A great option for corporate gift giving this year is to give the gift of corporate team building. These gifts are good for the person, company and team and can be fun and exciting as well as a great gift idea for the holidays. There are several options when planning a team building event, however the ones that can also be used as gifts are the most fun and adventurous.

Many companies are offering extreme sports as a way to do team building. For example, a company called Bay Adventures is an experienced company in assisting you in planning a successful corporate team-building event. They offer a variety of programs and can tailor them for your specific needs. The historic schooner Gas Light has day time programs aboard and is appropriate for people interested in hands on sailing. It is an interactive, learn-while-doing experience and the group is able to participate in all aspects of sailing the boat. This includes steering, navigating, handling lines, hoisting sails etc. Your company would be divided into teams on the dock hour before leaving and they would be taught how to handle the lines, man the foredeck and raise the sails.

Also, they will get a sense of history about the early San Francisco Bay and particularly the history of scow schooners. They talk about the life of a sailor and traditional navigation. Everyone gets a chance to participate while underway and it encourages a team atmosphere while having fun. Participants are then included in a Angel Island Barbeque that is prepared and waiting for them. This is just one example of a teambuilding even offered by Bay Adventures.

There are many other companies such as Global Events that organize indoor and outdoor training that can range from a couple of hours to an entire day. There are so many fun things that can be arranged and it is important if you are thinking about planning this type of event for your company, to explore all options to determine what type of even would be best for your company.

Another idea when planning to give the gift of corporate team building is to plan an event yourself. Some ideas for team building and fun could be a day at the golf course. You could enter a tournament or play Best Ball to encourage people to work together and have a great time. There are many options on the golf course for this type of even and you should contact your local golf course for details on corporate sponsored events.

A great way to encourage bonding and trust is to take your team rock climbing. There are many gyms that will assist you and your guests in this type of team building event while catering to the many different skill levels of the participants. Rock climbing is a way for people to work together and build trust. As one participant climbs, the other holds the rope that keeps them safe. There is usually another person acting as a spotter who will advise the climber on the best route or just be there in case of a slip. This type of team building activity is a great way for people to work together who may not have had the chance in the work place, or to get to know new people in the office. There are many different options and benefits to this type of exercise.

When you plan to give the gift of corporate team building, consider whether you want an adventure planned by someone else, or if you could plan it yourself. Look into the different options and ask about corporate events or special rates or discounts. You may be able to find a great deal as well as plan an event that everyone will love and that will encourage team building this season!

Televisions are not the only electronic items that have become more sophisticated. Going Gourmet Good Ideas for the Corporate Food Gift

Going Gourmet Good Ideas for the Corporate Food Gift

One option that many corporations turn to when giving a gift is food. This type of gift can come in many different forms, including food baskets, gourmet food packs, and hams or turkeys, depending on the season. One factor that determines which type of food gift a corporation should give is the type of recipient. Gifts that are appropriate for employees are not necessarily fitting to give to clients or suppliers, and vice-versa. Price is also a determining factor in the selection of a corporate food gift.

Food gifts for employees can vary, but around the winter holiday season many companies default to the standard ham or turkey. This type of gift is a good way to show appreciation of a year of hard work, and gives the employees family a chance to enjoy the present as well. Often if a company makes the giving of this type of gift a tradition, employees will come to rely on it for their annual holiday dinner. It is recommended that a choice of ham or turkey is given to the employees, as many people prefer one over the other due to religion, health, or personal taste.

Another option that some companies choose around the holidays is to present employees with a gift card to a grocery store so that the employees can choose their own food item to use for their holiday dinner. By doing this, corporations can avoid any conflict with employees who would prefer another option besides a turkey or ham, as some people are vegetarians or vegans, and do not eat meat. And, employees who do not celebrate the traditional winter holidays or are not hosting a holiday dinner can still make use of the gift.

Choosing a food gift for a client, prospect, or supplier can be a bit trickier, as often there are multiple recipients of the gift. So, food items must be chosen that can be divided among several different people. On the low end of the price spectrum, large cans of popcorn can be purchased relatively inexpensively, and can be enjoyed by many employees in an office. They come in many different flavors such as buttered, caramel, kettle, and cheese, and can be placed in an offices break room to serve as a snack to employees who are passing through. Tins of gourmet cookies are another type of food gift that can be enjoyed by several employees, and many food gift suppliers offer these in a wide range of sizes and prices. Standard chocolate-chip cookies are always a safe bet, but one might consider sending decorated sugar cookies around the winter holiday season. Some cookie makers also offer tins of giant cookies that weigh as much as a half pound each, which can make for an unusual and much-appreciated gift.

For companies that would like to send out food gifts to many clients across the country, one good option is to choose a type of food that is unique to the area in which the company is located. For example, Seattle-based companies might consider sending out coffee themed gift baskets, as the city of Seattle is known for its coffee. Or, a New Orleans-based company could give Cajun themed gifts such as a basket of spices, gumbo mix, or beignets. Giving gifts with this type of local flavor can be a unique way of drawing attention to ones company, while garnering much appreciation among clients or prospects.

Corporate food gifts vary according to the type of recipient and the price range. For employees around the holidays, nothing beats a turkey or ham to bring home to their families. Likewise, clients, prospects, and suppliers enjoy food gifts that can be shared by many employees around the office, such as popcorn or cookies. Choosing the right type of gift will ensure that it is properly appreciated and enjoyed by the recipient.

Awesome Options for Business Group Gifts

Posted by admin | Gifts for the business sector | Thursday 8 January 2009 11:57 am

One of the most difficult situations that can arise in an office setting, especially around the holidays, is the prospect of giving a group gift to a boss or co-worker. It can be a tough thing to coordinate among a group of people, as inevitably some will not agree on the choice of gift or on the overall cost, and some employees may not want to participate at all. But by coming up with a great gift idea, the coordinator of the group gift can more easily facilitate agreement among the members of the group.

One good gift idea that can be given by a group is tickets to a concert or sporting event. Often, tickets to affairs such as these can be very expensive, particularly if they are to a high-profile event such as the Super Bowl or World Series, or if an especially popular singer, such as the Rolling Stones, gives the concert. Many people wouldnt consider buying tickets like that on their own due to the expense, but through the power of group gift giving, the cost can be broken up among a large number of people to make the gift more attainable. The key to choosing this gift is to somehow find out what type of event the recipient would enjoy by paying attention to see if he or she always talks about watching certain sporting events on television. Or, if the person enjoys listening to a certain type of music, then that would be another clue as to the type of tickets to buy.

Another good gift idea for a stressed out boss or co-worker is a gift certificate to a spa. Although many people think that only women can enjoy spas, many men and women alike routinely enjoy all the benefits that a spa has to offer, such as massages or facials. And, most spas allow the customer to take advantage of the numerous facilities such as pools, hot tubs, and saunas before and after any paid treatments, for a truly relaxing and stress-free day. Spas can be found all over the United States and a quick search online is all that it takes to find the closest one. Odds are there is one within driving distance from the office in question.

Or, for a truly exciting group gift, pitching in toward a party in the recipients honor is a gift that benefits not only the boss or co-worker, but all who contributed as well. Money that is collected could go toward decorations and catered food, and people could bring their own homemade dishes as well. If enough money is collected, the group could hire a professional disk jockey, and could even rent out a party room or banquet hall at a local hotel. The options are endless with this type of gift, as that party could be as small or large as desired.

If the recipient is a particularly civic-minded or charitable person, a group might consider pitching in toward a contribution to the favorite charity of the boss or co-worker. This would be a fairly easy thing for a group to agree on, and would also serve a dual purpose for each contributor. Not only would each person in the group enjoy contributing toward a gift to the boss or co-worker, but he or she would also have the opportunity to feel good about giving back to the community. A certificate could be printed with each contributors name, stating that the contribution is being donated in the name of the gift recipient, and placed in a nice envelope.

Whatever the group ends up giving, it is important that everyone is happy with the choice, and it is something appropriate for the recipient. Also, no pressure should be placed on anyone that does not want to contribute. By choosing the right gift, a group of employees can ensure that it is a happy occasion when the gift is finally presented to the recipient.

Once upon a time a gift basket was the gift of choice to thank a client for their business, to send well wishes on an upcoming business venture, to wish someone a swift recovery after having surgery or to send as a thank you at Christmas time. You must determine what a client’s personal preferences are before you decide what kind of gift basket is appropriate for him or her. For the fruit lover, order the bountiful fruit and gourmet gift basket. There is an assortment of tasty and colorful seasonal fruits as well as an assortment of crackers, jams, cookies, cheese, and candies all wrapped up in an attractive wicker gift basket ripe for gift giving.

The gardenia bonsai gift basket is an excellent gift for the gardening enthusiast. The gardenia bonsai will grow to no taller than a foot. It has beautiful dark green as well as waxy leaves and the blooms of the gardenia are white and very delicate. Flowers always make an excellent gift and they do not just have to be for women clients. The yellow and lavender bouquet is considered a gift basket although it arrives in a glass jar vase. This is a beautiful choice of gift as it comes complete with flowers in both yellow and lavender shades such as roses, alstroemeria, and chrysanthemums.

The handsome trunk of treats gift basket is made up of three keepsake boxes that look like leather and stand one on top of the other. Inside you will find a surprising amount of delicious treats, which are sure to please any client. These treats include Asiago cheese shortbread, California pistachios, Cabernet chocolate biscotti and cinnamon spiced pecans.

The heavenly thank you gift basket is truly heaven sent with its variety of yummy foods. If your client has a sweet tooth then he will fall in love with this gift on sight.
